As life goes by

Independence Day holiday was long since it had a weekend and a few days to celebrate. We had company from the Boston area. Many years ago, we had a foster child come into our lives. She turned 14, a few days after she came into our home. Elisa turned 7, the day after Lori’s birthday. It is always hard to realize how many years have passed when you don’t see each other often. Lori has a 21-year-old daughter. Amazing. We had a good time visiting with her and getting out on the lake on the fourth. The girls all went out on the lake that night to watch the fireworks at Lost Bridge Village. They had a great time. We even got in a couple of games of Rummikub in down-time.
The upcoming hurricane will probably send some rain into Arkansas and even into Northwest Arkansas. We have had such hot weather and now with Hurricane Beryl we could even have rough weather. I saw there was a possibility of 6.5 inches in one part of the state.WOW!
Every time I drive into the tornado damaged areas of Rogers and surrounding areas, I just can’t believe what people are having to go through. The temperatures have been high and many of the houses have had roof damage as well as structural damage so many people are living in houses that are open to the weather. I imagine some are waiting for inspections and insurance help, but it seems like it has been a long time since the storm.

It has been a while since my pinochle group has met, partly because the church has been used for the disaster team who has come to work all over the city. The team sleeps, eats, showers, and rests in the church. It takes a lot of room for the group, so we didn’t meet last month. Our EHC group meets in the church on the second Saturday of the month and we skipped it last month, too. I think the team is going to work two more weeks. They are almost overwhelmed by all the damage. So many trees down and on houses. Much has been done but more is needed.
Have a great week! Stay cool. Hopefully, your gardens are producing tomatoes and other vegetables.
