WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Arkansas Tech baseball team concluded their weekend on the road with a doubleheader at No. 3 Central Missouri on Saturday. Tech would drop both ends of the twinbill, 6-0 in the first game and 13-2 in the second game.
GAME ONE
Scheduled to be played as a seven-inning game, the first game saw Central Missouri race out to 4-0 lead through two innings of play as they scored four runs in the second. All four of the runs that scored did not come with the benefit of a hit as there was a bases loaded walk and hit-by-pitch, a fielder's choice and a sacrifice bunt.
In the third, UCM plated two more runs to take a 6-0 lead, which ended up being the final score of the seven-inning contest.
Ashton Greenlee and Derek Rocket were bright spots in relief for the Wonder Boys. They would combine for no runs and two hits with four strikeouts over the final 3.1 innings.
GAME TWO
In game two, the Wonder Boy scored first with a tally in the top of the second. That inning was started with a hit-by-pitch to Kirby Jenkins. Jeffrey Cisneros then followed with a single to center. Tech would hit into a double play in the next at-bat putting their run-scoring chances in jeopardy, but Brendyn Bard was able to come through with a clutch two-out knock for Tech's run in the inning.
UCM did not wait long to answer back as they pushed across a leadoff triple in their half of the second, tying the game at one-all. In the fourth, the Mules took the lead, scoring on a wild pitch. An inning later, they tacked on three runs to go up 5-1.
The big damage came in the next inning, however, as UCM scored eight runs on seven hits while also benefitting from a pair of Tech errors.
Looking to avoid having the game end in seven innings, the Wonder Boys had second and third with no outs in the top of the seventh on a single by Joe Kinneberg and a double by Bard. Needing three runs in the frame to extend the game, the Wonder Boys were only able to push across one on a Grant Jones RBI groundout.
