I wanted to let you know that we have found all growth stages of the Asian Longhorn tick as well as positive cases of Theileria in cattle in Newton County. This being the case, I wanted to provide you some more information on this disease.

The annual Hilltop quilt auction to benefit the Hilltop Volunteer Fire Department will be held on Saturday, November 1, beginning at 5 p.m. with a potluck dinner, followed by the auction at 7 p.m. The Ladies Auxiliary have hand quilted several beautiful quilts to offer this year, as well as some machine quilted ones. There are other donated items that will be offered as well. Everyone is invited to come out and support the Hilltop Volunteer Fire Department.

The chili supper hosted by the Compton Volunteer Fire Department last Saturday was well attended. We appreciate those who came out to support the local fire department. The next meeting of the VFD will be November 10, at 6 p.m. at the County Line Church.

Diana Kolman welcomed everyone and made introductions. Claude Whited led the pledge to the flag, and Pastor Laura West gave the invocation and blessing.
