Jasper diamond teams start region play

HARRISON — The Jasper softball and baseball teams have extended their season another week.
On Thursday, both teams will begin play in the Class 1A Region 1 tournaments that will be held in Harrison.
Softball
The Lady Pirates finished the district tournament with a runner-up trophy.
Jasper fell to Lead Hill in the finals.
With the second place finish, the Lady Pirates will meet Mulberry in the first round game.
That meeting will happen at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday in Harrison at the sports complex.
In the other first round regional game, County Line and Omaha play at 3 p.m.
Because of only three teams in each conference, Scranton received a bye for winning their district tournament. They will face the winner of the Jasper and Mulberry game at noon on Friday.
Lead Hill also received a bye and play in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
The consolation game will be at noon and Saturday and the finals will be at 2:30 p.m.
Greers Ferry Westside is host the Class 1A State Softball Tournament this year.

Baseball
There is a full slate of teams for the Class 1A Region 1 Baseball Tournament that begins on Thursday in Harrison at the sports complex.
The tournament is being hosted by Omaha.
Alpena was the fourth seed from the 1A-1 and they will face Scranton at 10 a.m.
The next contest of the day features No. 2 Omaha playing Ozark Catholic in a 12:30 p.m. contest.
Jasper, who was the winner of the district tournament will face off against Mulberry in a 3 p.m. game.
The last game of the opening day will feature County Line against Lead Hill at 5:30 p.m.
All winners of the first day will advance to the state tournament that will be hosted by Greers Ferry Westside.
The first semifinal game on Friday will be at noon and it will feature the winners of the Scranton/Alpena game playing Omaha/Ozark Catholic winner.
Jasper/Mulberry winner will play the winner of the County Line/Lead Hill game beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the other semifinal game.
The championship game is on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. It will follow the consolation contest at noon.
