Friday Night Lights: Wonder Boys football to play Green and Gold game

Posted

RUSSELLVILLE — Arkansas Tech football team and head coach Kyle Shipp are set to conclude the spring portion of their season on Friday, April 12 as they will play their annual Green and Gold intrasquad game. The game will be played under the lights at Simmons Bank Field at Thone Stadium and is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
The construction of the rosters is a bit different from a typical intrasquad spring game as this year's game will pit offense versus defense rather than a mix of both on two separate teams. For the entirety of the game, the offense will don the Gold uniforms, while the defense will wear the green unis for the contest.
Scoring for the game will also be slightly different than a normal game as points can be scored for both the offense and defense on a given series.
For example, normal offensive scoring rules will apply for the offense as they must score touchdowns or successfully kick field goals. The defense, however, can also score points on a drive in a myriad of ways and below is the breakdown of how the defense can score points.
Defensive Touchdown - 6 points
Turnovers Forced - 3 points
Fourth-Down Stop - 2 points
Sack - 1 point
Force a Three-and-Out - 2 points
Force a Field Goal Attempt inside the 25-yardline - 1 point
The game itself will have a running clock with 15 minutes at the start of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters. When the clock hits two minutes before halftime, however, the clock will revert to normal as the team will work on a 2-minute drill.
Both sides will get three timeouts per half.
Halftime will be 10 minutes in length.
The 4th quarter will be a 10-minute period, but still have a running clock.
The clock will stop for all extra points, punts and change of possessions.
If the game is forced into overtime, that will be played out as a Red Zone competition.
Below are the rosters for the game:
